Media Institute, one program a month for its first six months

Should we do it at Berkeley instead of State Bob asked, spoke to acting dean at Berkeley

As long as Berkeley doesn’t charge it would be a done deal. NABJ could help with funding and staffing the event. NABJ would send the word out to student members in the region like a regional conference. All details still to be drawn in from… Berkeley, NABJ folks

VP report
Start thinking of ideas for our holiday gathering in December

NLGJA, AAJA have holiday party at LGBT facility

Did it 3 yrs ago and a whole lot of people showed up, B. Butler said

2 yrs for $300 and no one showed up, B. Butler said

Earliest we could have a convention here is 2016 Bob said, we should explore a regional convention here first

Two reason why…
1. Were in S. Francisco and that’s on the Left Coast and folks may not come out here
2. Cost of labor and other expenses are measured every year Bob said

If there was another hotel in downtown Oakland aside the Marriot the convention could be done here in Oakland, Bob said

Could it be done at the Moscone Center, Aaron said?

Should be close to the hotels

At Unity 2008 hotels are about 5 miles from the convention center and buses will shuttle people back and forth, at least 8,000 people expected, B. Butler said

Cities being considered for 2014 and 2015
New Orleans, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale and another two I think

Treasurer not here but “we have money in the bank” B. Butler said

$6,000 in first year and nothing the next two and this year should be in the black want to break it up between operating budget…
